Three Sizes, One Golden Colour — More Christmas Baubles
A colour combination I have not made in years: gold glitter ribbon folded with white star-print satin, in three different sizes.

Back at the folding table today, and this time with a colour combination I have not used in years. The three baubles in the photo are all made from the same two ribbons: a warm gold glitter and a soft white satin scattered with tiny gold stars. I had forgotten how much I like them together.

The glitter ribbon does most of the work in the light, but it is the star print that makes it feel festive rather than simply shiny. The little gold stars sit against the white satin and catch the light whenever the baubles move, which is exactly what you want from a tree decoration.
The part I am most pleased with is the sizes. There are three on the table — a small one, a medium one and a large one — and they look wonderful as a set. One large bauble makes a statement on its own, but three together in different sizes fill a branch properly, and they also sit nicely in a bowl on a sideboard if you would rather not hang them.
Each one is built exactly the same way as always: a plain ball, ribbon cut into small folded triangles, and a box of sequin pins. Fold by fold the ribbon covers the surface in that woven, pinecone pattern, with no glue anywhere. The white star print is the fiddly one of the two ribbons because the pattern has to sit neatly, but it is worth the extra care.
All three are tastefully decorated on top, each finished with a soft gold bow and a hanger, so they are ready to go straight into the Christmas box for the fairs.
For the photo I propped them in front of one of my succulents, with a couple of the little green gourds and a dried seed head from the garden behind. It is not a traditional Christmas setting, but the greens set off the gold beautifully — and it is a reminder that these decorations do not have to live on a tree to look good.
If gold and star print is the combination you have been looking for, do get in touch and I can make them up in the sizes you need. There are more baubles in the online shop too, and I will be sharing the next batch here in the journal as the season gets busier.
Thank you for reading — and wish my sequin pins a quiet evening!
